A-B-Sea: Alaskan Animals from A to Z
From anemone to zooplankton, A-B-Sea: Alaskan Animals from A to Z celebrates 26 ocean animals found in Alaskan waters. On the surface, readers will find fun facts about an array of animals such as the adorable otter and less-than-lovely lingcod. On a deeper level, the book is a catalyst for discussions about global warming and a delicate ecosystem that is dependent upon healthy oceans.
There are a variety of animals featured, including fish, mammals, birds, crustaceans, and more. Each animal is honored with a poem and informational sidebar.
The word count is approximately 1000 for the poems, and just over 3000 with sidebars.
The text in this nonfiction poetry book for children was independently reviewed for factual accuracy by a marine biology professor with the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska.
